We recently had an email from Alan Lawrie, the son of a Former Pupil, asking for help concerning his Father's time at George Heriot's.
Alan has kindly given permission to share this story.
Alan's Father, Alexander Lawrie (1940) was Bursary pupil at the School from 1935 and 1940. In his final year, Alexander was awarded first prize for German, and second prize for French. He would go on to be a Petty Officer/Writer for the Royal Navy in WWII and is recorded in the School's Roll of Honour.
Alexander would go on to join the Foreign Service, serving in Brazil and several African countries before joining the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) in 1960. We are sure he must have used his talent for languages.
