On Friday 11 October, George Heriot's School hosted a magical evening at Prestonfield House to celebrate the closing of the We are all George Heriot campaign which has been bringing the whole Herioter community together since March 2024.
The evening proved a joyous celebration, with current and former parents, former pupils, staff and Governors, friends of the school and some of our most valued donors enjoying all the evening had to offer.
Guests experienced a five-star evening facilitated by James Thomson (1976) and his wonderful team. The charming Grant Stott kept us all entertained, laughing and to schedule. The erudite Gavin Esler, (1971) Guest Speaker, offered context text to the evening, speaking with passion about the transformative power of education and telling those gathered how a George Heriot's Bursary and Education changed the path of his life. Gavin also previewed some fascinating stories included in his next book, covering personalities from the world of politics and beyond, such as Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, and best of all the leading lady of Country Music and Philanthropy, Miss Dolly Parton. As he said, who thought a night about George Heriot would draw so many similarities to the Queen of Country.
The other purpose of the evening was to raise further funds for the We are all George Heriot campaign to provide a six-year bursary place for a new Senior School pupil, and guests did not disappoint. The silent Raffle saw a guest leave with a beautiful Gold and Diamond Necklace, gifted by Paterson & Co and valued at £1550, from just a £20 raffle ticket. This, a fun game of Hit & Miss and both the silent and the Live Auction helped raise a massive £33,245.
In total, this brings the final amount raised this year for We are all George Heriot campaign to a phenomenal £135,091.00
A wonderful end to a year that has brought the whole community together and witnessed such a huge show of generosity through donations, time, effort, commitment and support.
What a year! Thanks to every single person involved.
With sincere thanks,
The Development Team
Miranda, Darren, Ailsa, Eilidh and Julie.
