Former Pupil News |
Heriot's was delighted to welcome golfing legend Dr Alastair Cochran (1948) back to the School last week. During an extremely distinguished career, Dr Cochran has had an undeniable impact on the world of golf. Widely lauded as the biggest scientific influence on modern golf, Dr Cochran's reserach has led him to top positions at the likes of Calaway Golf, Titleist, and the publication of his groundbreaking book "The Search for the Perfect Swing".
Still playing golf in his 90's (and still competing!), Alastair regaled us with tales of the world of golf as well as his time at Heriot's. It was a particluarly poignant meeting for Head of Junior School, Alastair Morrison, with whom Dr Cochran spent an enjoyable lunch during his visit. Mr Morrison, an avid golf fan, said: "I so enjoyed listening to Dr Cochran's incredible reflections on a life of deep, passionate expertise in the game of golf. To hear that he came third in the R&A over 70’s competition, despite being 24 years over-age, was simply staggering! Very inspirational to all of us ‘young’ golfers. Inspirational to me in driving forward the development of children’s golf".
If you are inspired by Dr Cochran's visit and, as a Former Pupil, would like to return to the school, please contact the development office. dev@george-heriots.com
