We were thrilled to welcome back Alf Merriweather (1972) and his wife Linda for a tour of the School on Wednesday while they enjoyed their summer holiday to Edinburgh.
As well as booking to see several shows at the Fringe and the Edinburgh Tattoo, Alf decided to arrange a visit to Heriot's to show his wife around his old school. It was the first time Alf had been back to the School since 1972, and it was great to hear his stories and memories from his time at Heriot's.
Alf remembered a number of his schoolteachers, in particular, Mr Pat Campbell who was Head of Mathematics who also taught his father and uncle when they were at Heriot's. Alf recalled that when Mr Campbell was teaching a rowdy class, he would simply walk out of the classroom for a minute and then walk back in silently, with his hands clasped behind his back. The class would then know to quieten down.
Does anyone else remember being in Mr Campbell's mathematics class at school?
Whilst reminiscing about school, Alf mentioned a few classmates whom he had lost contact with since moving to the United States. We were able to get in touch with these Former Classmates and put them back in touch with Alf while he was here in Edinburgh. The power of the Herioter Hub in action.
If you have lost contact with Former Classmates and would like to reconnect, please don't hesitate to contact the Development Team on dev@george-heriots.com, and we can assist where we can.
