The Ritchie Sisters

We were joined late last week by the Ritchie sisters, Joan and Lesley for a walk around the school.

Their father George Hamilton Ritchie (1933) was a Former Pupil and proud Foundationer at the school, having enrolled at the age of 6. George then went on to Edinburgh University with a long career in his hometown as a Chartered Accountant, raising his family with his wife in East Edinburgh.

Together we walked the Quadrangle and visited some of the spaces around the school that their father would have remembered fondly, as they remembered him. We talked of his love of Rugby and Cricket, and his tolerance for discipline, he was definitely a pupil that preferred to toe the line.

His love of the school and rugby was a huge part of his life after Heriot’s and he continued to stay involved with the FP Rugby Team, often taking his children to Goldenacre.

It was a real pleasure to hear his story, and to be bequeathed with some of his treasured caps and memorabilia.
