In Service of the Common Good, written by Graham Garvie OBE (1960)

An autobiography by Graham Garvie OBE

Former convener of Scottish Borders Council, Graham Garvie (1960) who was awarded an OBE in 2018 for his services to local government and to the community in the Borders has released his autobiography.

In Service of the Common Good is the fundamental importance to humankind of the common good, empathy and kindness especially in today’s increasingly dangerous and selfish world.  Interspersed with reflection and humour, there are naturally strong liberal themes throughout; professional advice on councillor/officer relationships and the pitfalls and opportunities of political coalitions.

The book has now been published with all proceeds going to The Samaritans.
