The Senior School Rights Respecting Schools Group has been looking at ways to support children and young people affected by the war in Ukraine and has made contact with the charity 6VT with whom we have worked before.
6VT, based near the school, is reaching out to welcome and support young Ukrainians who are coming to Edinburgh. 6VT has offered use of their youth centre where the Ukrainians can be together in a safe, supportive place, as well as involving them in existing activities with local teenagers. On a practical level, 6VT services are free to young people and include hot meals, health and hygiene products and access to activities and experiences to improve happiness and confidence. They are currently looking to recruit local teenagers who speak Ukrainian, who could act as “Peer Buddies”.

Thanks to the brilliant PE department, the final PE lesson of term for S1 and S2 classes was a sponsored walk and pupils managed to raise £3961.50.
6VT Edinburgh City Youth Cafe would like to extend sincere thanks to all of the pupils and those who have so generously supported their fundraising efforts. What you have raised genuinely exceeded our expectations! As a result of your kindness we will be able to offer longer term assistance to children and young people from Ukraine who have arrived here, to help integrate them in our own service, as well as offer them practical assistance and experiences which support their emotional wellbeing through this incredible challenging time of their lives.
