This weekend just gone was Goldenacre 7s weekend.
It was a marvelous sight as over 40 school teams between U16 and U18 level, across hockey and rugby were involved in what was a fantastic morning of sport at Goldenacre. It was so lovely to see our beloved Goldenacre full with players, staff and supporters from across Scotland.
After a pretty tough run on the 7s circuit our U18s’ effort was finally rewarded with a title. Having progressed into the Bowl final with a narrow win over The Glasgow Academy (24-14) in the semis, the players saved their best performance of the tournament until the last match, finishing comfortable victors against St Aloysius’ College (36-5).
The U15s followed a very similar path to our U16s, progressing into the Shield Semi having lost to Merchiston Castle and beating Hutchesons' Grammar School in their group. They similarly had an excellent win in the semi-final versus High School of Dundde (19-14) to progress to the final but again, this was a step too far being beaten comfortably by Dollar Academy.
The U14s were competitive in all 3 of their matches however, finished behind on the scoreline in all 3, bowing out in the Bowl semis to The Glasgow Academy (20-24).
Finally, the U13s had another good morning on the 7s circuit. They beat both Merchiston Castle and Hutchesons’ Grammar School in their group to progress to the Cup semis however, came up agonisingly short versus The Edinburgh Academy at this stage, losing 14-16.
Well done to all involved!
